Have you ever been called to be a witness in a Coronial Court Inquest? This video and workbook addresses the following areas:

- Coronial Court procedures
- Different types of evidence presented
- Basic witness skills

To demonstrate more clearly the role of a witness, you will see a simulated Coronial Court Inquest and examples of the different types of witnesses who may
be called upon to give evidence. The video will explain how a Coronial Court operates and the role of other participants such as the Coroner, the Legal
Counsel, the Assistant to the Coroner and the Depositions Clerk.

The role of a witness is a vital part of the Coronial Court Inquest and this video will provide you with the information so that you can present your evidence
openly, truthfully and without bias.

An Instructor's Manual accompanies the video program "The Witness" and is part of a training initiative developed by the Queensland Association of Fire
Investigators, Department of Mines & Energy (Electrical Safety Office) and the Queensland Fire and Rescue Authority - Fire Investigation Research Unit.

The training package will provide you with the necessary tools that will assist you in developing a professional image when presenting evidence as a
witness. We have chosen to demonstrate the procedures and techniques used by an expert witness at a Coroners Inquest looking into a cause of a fire.

The video examines the serving of a summons, protocols and roles of various witnesses, types of evidence, court structure, questioning and answering
techniques, and a summing up from the Coroner.

By completing this training package, you will gain an understanding of the various types of information, protocol, prior preparation and recollection.
